Castelnau de Suduiraut is the second wine of the Grand Cru Classé Château de Suduiraut. The estate is adjacent to the most prestigious of all Sauternes estates, Chateau d'Yquem. This is incredible value for money! The wine is rich, elegant and voluptuous with honeycomb, spice, almonds and sweet candied citrus fruits. It drinks wonderfully on its own before or after food and pairs brilliantly with most cheeses (especially blue) or makes the classic match with fine liver paté. This very fine bottle of white wine comes from the exceptional Ktima Gerovassiliou, who are veritable magicians. It is important to know that, in a market now well represented by the indigenous Malagousia varietal, this estate was responsible for rescuing said grape from extinction in 1981. This baby is the benchmark of the varietal and comes from immaculate 74 acre slopes in Epanomi. It’s all in here; white pear, mango and lemon zest on the nose and a mouthful of refreshing fruit with a hint of mountain herbs underpinned by a delicious flinty, mineral backbone. Obviously this is a natural partner to Greek and Mediterranean food but it has the kahunas to stand up to Thai spice too. If you like Sauvignon Blanc or Bacchus you're going to love this. As if we didn't know well enough how tiny our vineyard is, the wine this time comes from another family owned estate; of 250 hectares! Perez Cruz Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 is an absolute belter. This unique eco-friendly winery is found in the Maipo Andes in Chile and, as much as we are seen as rosé specialists, so they are considered red experts. This region, at around 500m above sea level, is considered to be one of the most sought after areas to grow Cabernet Sauvignon. As ours are, their vines are trained on a double guyot system and have a long ripening season eventually being harvested by hand. The big difference is that, in the middle bit, they get plenty of sunshine! A bit of an 'under the radar' wine, this has intense ripe red fruits with sweet vanilla (it spends a year in oak), black pepper, wild herbs and figs. The palate is creamy and concentrated with enough grip for food but the balanced acidity and soft tannins are also perfect for a liquid supper watching a movie in front of the fire. Perfect wine for roast dinner. It's vegan friendly too.... In the 1980's Chilean Cab Sauv was a bit of a joke. Now they're sending us the good stuff! Available by itself or as part of a mixed case. The saying goes, if you are buying a Primitivo then make sure it's from Manduria. This wine comes from Puglia, the heel of Italy, where the sun beats down throughout the summer and enables the most extraordinary levels of ripeness. The varietal is so named due to its early ripening. This wine is a veritable flavour-bomb for your palate. Amazing depth with an intense aroma of red cherries and blackberries with hints of spice and leather. It is rich and velvety with generous soft tannins and great length, and there's vanilla and chocolate notes in there from six months in second and third use barrels. This is a big wine (in an unusual shortened bottle) No need to get the LBV port out when you've finished with this. Available by itself or as part of a mixed case.
